Everyone knows whats a VCD? Any idea whats VCD1.1 or VCD 2.0?

VCD stands for 'Video Compact Disc' and basically it is a CD that contains moving pictures and sound. A VCD has the capacity to hold up to 74/80 minutes on 650MB/700MB CDs respectively of full-motion video along with quality stereo sound. VCDs use a compression standard called MPEG to store the video and audio. The quality of a very good VCD is about the same as a VHS tape based movie but VCD is usually a bit more blurry.

Technical details about VCD 1.1 and VCD 2.0:

Video CD 1.1

This is the most basic Video CD specification dating back to 1993-94 , which has the following characteristics:

  • One mode 2 mixed form ISO-9660 track containing file pointers to the information areas.

  • Up to 98 multiplex-ed mpeg-1 audio/video streams or cd-da audio tracks.

  • Up to 500 mpeg sequence entry points used as chapter divisions.

  • The Video CD specification requires the multiplex-ed mpeg-1 stream to have a cbr of less than 174300 bytes (1394400 bits) per second 5 in order to accommodate single speed cd-rom drives.
The specification allows for the following two resolutions:
    ~ 352 x 240 @ 29.97 Hz (ntsc sif).
    ~ 352 x 240 @ 23.976 Hz (film sif).

  • The cbr mpeg-1, layer II audio stream is fixed at 224 kbps with 1 stereo or 2 mono channels. It is recommended to keep the video bit-rate under 1151929.1 bps

Video CD 2.0

About two years after the Video CD 1.1 specification came out, an improved Video CD 2.0 standard was published in 1995. This one added the following items to the features already available in the Video CD 1.1 specification:

  • Support for mpeg segment play items (SPI ), consisting of still pictures, motion pictures and/or audio (only) streams was added.

  • Support for interactive playback control (PBC) was added.

  • Support for playing related access by providing a scan point index file was added.(‘/EXT/SCANDATA.DAT’)

  • Support for closed captions.

  • Support for mixing ntsc and pal content.

  • By adding PAL support to the Video CD 1.1 specification, the following resolutions became
    available:
    ~ 352 x 240 @ 29.97 Hz (ntsc sif).
    ~ 352 x 240 @ 23.976 Hz (film sif).
    ~ 352 x 288 @ 25 Hz (pal sif).

  • For segment play items the following audio encodings became available:
~ Joint stereo, stereo or dual channel audio at 128, 192, 224 or 384 kbs bit-rate.
    ~ Mono audio streams at 64, 96 or 192 kbit/sec bit-rate.

What is DivX?
So you want to know a little bit about DivX, huh? DivX is a lot of things. First and foremost, DivX is a patent-pending MPEG-4 digital video technology created by DivXNetworks, Inc. Videos encoded with DivX technology are among the highest quality digital videos available anywhere

DivX is the most widely distributed MPEG-4 compatible technology available today. DivX technology is compatible with the MPEG-4 video compression standard, allowing it to compress MPEG-2 video down to about one eighth of its original size. DivX is able to create fully compliant MPEG-4 bitstreams

When videos are compressed to DivX format, they retain the orginal quality of Audio/Video, please be aware that you require DivX codecs to encode and decode DivX files. What does it mean? It simply means you need to have all the required codecs to watch the movie in a Divx format

The latest DivX codec can be downloaded from http://www.divx.com

Help > About

Blog, hmm, Why is everyone making such an hype?, How is it different from a website that allows you to build your own homepage (fortunecity, rediff, msn etc). I have been wondering all these days! What is it that, that make Blogs different from other community pages that exist in the cyber world. What’s so special about Blogs? Do you have an answer? Well me neither but I managed to list down a few which I think could be the reason for its existence.
Hey! Thats me...

  1. One way of showing to the world that you are computer savvy ;-)

  2. One way (shouldn’t this be second way, one way is already mentioned) of boasting off with things you know

  3. One way (oh no! not again) of having your identity on the web

  4. One way (hey! give me break!) of making friends on the web

  5. Finally (that’s better) don’t have anything to mention so just leave it here.

So Blogs indeed HAVE made an impact in every one of us or at least to the people who use the web frequently, I am no different and so here I am blogging.

To start with, I am a very common person having those average dislikes and above average likes ;-). Friends have mine have always told me they enjoyed my company (hope its not a lie) hence proves that I am a normal guy. I love technology, so I don’t mind spending all my time on it. I adore creative things be it a photograph or simple drawing or poems or anything under creative “folder” (Yeah! I know few computer jargons).

Thats enough for an introduction. Now comes the problem what should I post in my Blog? Technology information? Knaa!!! Code snippets? Knaa!!! My likes and dislikes? Hmm seems ok! About what I do? Sleeeep!!! answer given, then? Till I decide on a particular theme I will post info on everything that strike my mind! (Hey!!! dumbo thats the whole idea, you didn’t know this?)

My first post, I will start with some Audio/Video encoding/decoding stuff, I mostly do these kind of work back home, basically rip movies convert them to different formats, mix up movies and songs make a new movie out of it, (hey!! this is only for my viewing. I don’t sell or make duplicates out of the original ones), I can actually say, this is one of my favourite pass time.
